Problem :

Many existing stock trading apps overwhelm beginner investors with dense tables, complex charts, and unclear actions. Users feel anxious, confused, or unsure how to interpret data — often leading to abandoned trades or lack of engagement.

TradeTrek’s mission was to design a clear, navigable, and beginner-friendly interface that presents essential information without cognitive overload.

Solution :

I followed a human-centered, iterative design process, focusing on clarity, hierarchy, and ease of use.

Key Principles

  • Reduce cognitive load

  • Prioritize essential information

  • Guide users through actions clearly

  • Build trust through clean visual design

User Flow

  1. Onboarding

  2. Dashboard overview

  3. Stock details view

  4. Buy / Sell confirmation

The flow was designed to minimize steps while ensuring users clearly understand each action before executing a trade.

Design Decisions

Simplified Dashboard

  • Key portfolio metrics shown upfront

  • Minimal distractions

  • Clean card-based layout

Data Visualization

  • Color-coded gains and losses

  • Simplified line charts instead of complex graphs

  • Clear labels and legends

Trading Actions

  • Buy/Sell buttons placed consistently

  • Confirmation steps added to prevent errors

  • Reduced financial jargon

Design Process

  1. Research & Problem Framing: Identified the core issues retail investors face — complexity, jargon, clutter.

  2. Ideation & Wireframing: Explored multiple layout structures focusing on hierarchy and simplicity.

  3. Visual Design & Prototyping: Crafted UI that balances clarity with trustworthiness.

  4. Iteration: Refined designs based on heuristic review and prioritization of core user needs.

High-Fidelity UI Design

The final UI focuses on:

  • Calm and trustworthy color palette

  • Clear typography hierarchy

  • Consistent spacing and alignment

  • Mobile-first interaction patterns

The visual language was intentionally kept minimal to allow data to remain the hero.

Prototyping & Interaction

Interactive prototypes were created to:

  • Simulate real trading flows

  • Test navigation clarity

  • Validate ease of use

Micro-interactions were added to provide feedback and reassure users during critical actions like placing trades.

Challenge :

Design Challenges

  • Too much data competing for attention

  • Confusing chart types for beginners

  • Risk of accidental trades due to unclear CTAs

How I Solved Them

  • Simplified dashboards to show core metrics only

  • Used clean line charts instead of dense graphs

  • Designed clear, consistent Buy/Sell flows with confirmation screens

Summary :

Outcome

TradeTrek delivers a beginner-focused trading experience that balances clarity and control.
Users can quickly understand market trends, navigate portfolios, and confidently place trades.
This design reduces cognitive load, clarifies actions, and supports users at every step of their trading journey.

Potential Impact (Hypothetical)

  • Improved user clarity by 40%

  • Reduced dashboard anxiety scores by 30%

  • Higher conversion on trade execution pathways
